EXPEDITED REVIEW
It is proposed that the REC re-classifies ethics approval applications study protocols as either under Exempted, Minimal Risk or Full Board.
A research is categorized as minimal risk (MR) when the risk to the participants falls below a certain threshold level, which brings the definition of minimal risk to a risk that is no greater than that encountered in everyday life or risk no greater than that encountered in routine medical examination.
This category of research is eligible for an expedited review.
The REC Chair or designated REC officer of the REC shall assign the reviewers for MR applications.
Expedited Review can be carried out for MR applications.
Expedited Reviews can be approved by the Chair/Deputy Chair of the REC based on the recommendation of the reviewer.
List of MR applications approved expedited reviews will then be reported in the REC meeting.
